I just bought a Dell 9560 ( XPS 15 ) as a replacement for my elderly Mac Retina. hence i am forced to install the VMware workstation from the Deepin Software center for the test here. PS : I wanted to install the same version of VMware Workstation on setup 2 so as to identify if its VMware version or the Host OS causing this huge overhead on the RAM, but the VMware version 12.1.0 is not compiling my Deepin OS. If somebody could explain this huge shift in memory allocation and guide me to the correct setting so that i can get back memory usage similar to my 1st setup, a need to have basis, it would be fantastic !!! My layman understanding is the former is probably using RAM only on a need to have basis and the latter seem to be reserving the entire RAM of 8GB assigned to the virtual machine. screenshot showing memory consumption of setup 2 (enclosed screenshot showing memory consumption) Host Memory Usage : 10-12 GB of usage with chrome tabs(5 tabs) open on the host with the guest system booting. Guest OS : I have made a copy of the same guest VM(from above) and opening in this setup. VMware : VMware Workstation 12 Pro - 12.5.7 build-5813279 screenshot showing memory consumption of setup 1 Host Memory usage : 2-4 GB of usage with multiple chrome tabs(10-15) open on the host and with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Coreldraw running simultaneously on the Guest. My Hardware is HP Elitebook 2570p with both VT-x and VT-d enabled in BIOS
